We believe that this is the first guide about virtual teaming written by practitioners of virtual teaming for practitioners.  We reviewed our competition in preparing for this book by looking at works with key words like "virtual workplace," "global teaming," or "global collaboration."  While we found excellent discussions of the topic, we remain convinced that our "how-to" approach is both more comprehensive and more actionable for real-life virtual teaming.

Although technology is a critical prerequisite to virtual teaming, we believe we are the only authors who have taken a substantially non-technical approach to virtual teaming.  In our experience, virtual team effectiveness is not dependent on state-of-the-art technologies or the ability to run an Internet meeting.  In fact, technology can damage your team effectiveness.

The most important reason to read this book is that applying the techniques presented here will lead to more effective virtual teams.  More effective teams mean better work results.  The step-by-step guidance provided here will enable you to achieve and sustain operational excellence from your virtual team.
